Aligarh-Palwal Highway Work to Begin Before Holi

The construction of the Aligarh-Palwal National Highway, which will benefit Haryana, is expected to start before Holi

The Aligarh-Palwal Highway project is set to transform the connectivity landscape between Aligarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi. Construction is expected to begin before Holi, focusing on a 72 km stretch at a cost of Rs 1361 crore. This initiative aims to significantly improve travel experiences by enhancing road infrastructure, which will benefit commuters and boost regional development.

The project involves extensive land acquisition, with about 281 hectares required. Compensation of Rs 100 crore has already been distributed to farmers, with additional allocations planned. The highway will include a four-lane road from Khair to Andala and another from Jattari, along with a toll plaza in RajaPur village. Key infrastructure additions include underpasses at Loda, Andala, and Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University, as well as a 30-meter flyover.

In parallel, the Aligarh-Palwal Expressway is also underway, with a tendering process initiated for a 32 km greenfield project. This four-lane expressway, estimated to cost around Rs 2,300 crore, will connect Aligarh to the National Capital Region (NCR), linking with major expressways like the Yamuna Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. This will not only reduce congestion in areas like Noida and Gurugram but also enhance access to cities such as Agra, Mathura, and Delhi.

The current condition of the Palwal-Aligarh stretch remains a concern due to delays in transferring the road to the NHAI. The narrow and potholed road causes inconvenience to commuters, highlighting the urgency of these infrastructure projects.

These developments are part of broader plans to improve regional connectivity and economic growth. The Aligarh Development Authority views the expressway as a key component of its Master Plan 2031, aiming to accelerate regional development and support major projects like the Defence Corridor.

As these projects progress, they are expected to significantly impact travel times and regional connectivity. For instance, trips from Sarsaul to the Yamuna Expressway could be completed in just one hour, showcasing the potential for improved efficiency and reduced travel times.

The construction of these highways and expressways will not only ease travel but also support the establishment of educational institutions like Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University and enhance infrastructure in Greater Aligarh. Overall, these initiatives are poised to revolutionize connectivity in the region, benefiting both local residents and travellers.
