The Delicious Street Food of Punjab

I was both excited and nervous at the same time when I got off the train and stepped in Punjab. My mission was to locate the best street food that was available and I was successful in it.

The aroma of delicious cuisine wafted into the room as soon as I got off the train and wandered through Amritsar’s bustling marketplaces. Everywhere I looked was crowded with food vendors! He watched as they prepared large bhaturas, jalebis, and samosas. However, Akash was eager to sample the unique street food that not many people outside of Punjab were aware of.

Exploring the Delicious Delights of Punjab

Punjab is also known as the land of Five Rivers, but it is also the place for its incredible street food. In Punjab, you may get a lot of the country’s favorite snacks, like bhaturas, jalebis, and samosas. Samosas are fried by vendors until they are crispy pockets with potatoes and peas within.

Punjab has a delicious variety of street food alternatives that are all made with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. Some of the essentials are as follows:

Gol Gappe

These are wheat dough balls that are crispy, filled with a hot mixture of potatoes, and then dipped in flavored water. Crunchy, spicy, and tangy flavors explode in every bite! Although they go by many names throughout India, Punjabis refer to them as Gol Gappe.

Ingredients: Hollow, crispy puris filled with spicy tamarind water, chickpeas, potatoes, and tamarind chutney.

Amritsari Kulcha

A traditional Punjabi meal comprising kulcha, a thick flatbread made of maida flour, and spicy chickpea curry (chole). It’s tasty and filling.

Ingredients: This bread is loaded with mashed potatoes, onions, green chilies, and spices like carom seeds and ajwain, all prepared from flour dough. It is usually served with chole and baked in a tandoor. The kulcha has a soft, flavorful interior and an outer that is crispy and flaky. It is frequently served with a lot of butter.

Flavouful Lassi

This is the most popular dish in North India, and the best can be found in Punjab. This is made by two delicious things – a spicy chickpea curry called chole and a puffy, deep-fried bread called bhatura.

Ingredients: It is made by cooking chickpeas in a thick gravy full of flavorful spices like cumin, coriander, red chili powder, and other Indian spices. It has a nice tangy taste too. The bhatura is made from flour dough that gets fluffy and crispy when deep-fried.

Sarson Da Saag and Makki Di Roti

The combination of Makki di Roti and Sarson da Saag is one of the most famous dishes and their all-time favorites. traditional dhabas such as Kesar Da Dhaba in Amritsar serve this classic dish.

Ingredients: Makki di roti is a bread which is made of corn flour and Sarson da saag is a curry prepared with ginger, garlic, and spices, consisting of mustard greens, spinach, and fenugreek leaves.

From my experience, the taste of Punjab’s street food cannot be forgotten easily the taste of Punjabi street food will stay with you long after your trip is over. Every taste of Punjabi cuisine, from Chole Bhatures to Sarson the saag tells an unknown story and experience.
